Member Virtual Lunch & Learn: “Remember the Ladies” (250th Anniversary Event)

Museum Members across the nation are invited to meet Museum Education and Collections staff for a free special talk and Q&A in this exclusive virtual program series presented live from Philadelphia.  

On March 31, 1776, Abigail Adams wrote, “ [...] I long to hear that you have declared an independency -- and by the way in the new Code of Laws which I suppose it will be necessary for you to make I desire you would Remember the Ladies, and be more generous and favourable to them than your ancestors,” encouraging her husband John Adams, a politician then (several colonies) away on business to the Continental Congress in Philadelphia.   

Join Museum Members for a historical discussion on this famous letter from 1776, preserved in the collection of Massachusetts Historical Society and interpreted for visitors of all ages in the galleries at the Museum of the American Revolution. Members are invited to enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at how Abigail Adams’s words are remembered today and continue to inspire Revolutionary women, even generations later, to create art, music, and independence movements of their own. 

In this interactive event, Members will get a behind-the-scenes look at how Museum staff interpret the 250th anniversary of the “Remember the Ladies” letter by Abigail Adams. Following the talk, Museum Members will be invited to ask questions and share comments via Zoom. Please note: This event will not be recorded or made available to watch again.
